Yoga Chikitsa Classes (therapeutic practice)

offered Thursdays, Saturdays and some Sundays

A unique and highly beneficial form of practice.

The focus is activating the bodies own healing potential. The result is regenerative and enlivening.

WHY DO THEY WORK SO WONDERFULLY FOR PEOPLE

Because we are encouraged to slow down. To Press the pause button on all the driven, pushy, preoccupied and agitated habits of the mind. Life can be full on, our practice needs to be a counterpose to all the stressors. Reclaiming the power of functional effective breathing into focus as our most powerful healing force. Couple directed breathing with movement and postural placements engages the life force (prana) to repair its living body systems. We achieve this through powerful rarely taught methods of traditional and therapeutic yoga, take them home, practice them and observe the changes.

WHO ARE THE CLASSES FOR

Anybody and everybody with an interest in experiencing yoga in a complete form. There is no need to be able to twist and bend like a gymnast, just a willingness to find your way into your body through the breath and discover how the body works, repairs and vitalizes. Yogas understanding of our physiology, psychology and subtle nature is next level and very real.

YOGA TEACHERS

Many yoga teachers attend. They find it gives them permission to take the pressure out of their own practice and the way they teach. They discover ways to meet the very real needs of the real people who seek out yoga practice for their own wellbeing. Learn methods that reclaim the bodies inner power to function more optimally, raise the bar toward wholistic vitality and nourish a balanced mind. Find a quality of stillness that sits us in direct interface with essential nature, source and purpose.

WHAT IS A CLASS LIKE?

A typical class will include the following-

CHECK IN on the body, breath, quality of heart and energy and mind status. Guided breath helps us meet ourselves where we are . We make breath conscious refining its rhythm and quality. We dissolve the energetics of tension and stress and set the tone for the rest of the session.

RELEASE practicing unique, simple methods that reach into the areas of common tension and discomfort in the body. We experience areas of the body open in new ways to breath and energy.

ENHANCED MOBILITY by means that repair, tone, activate and strengthen the spine, joints and tissues.

RESTORE via practices that cleanse and nourish digestive power, balance and upgrade the function of the nervous and endocrine systems. Strength, flexibility, increased vitality and self awareness create a physical and mental environment that enables healing.

STANDING - traditional methods that stir, cultivate and move energy. These standing practices release and strengthen joints, bone, organs and tissues as well as enhance endocrine/nervous system function. Thes old forms of standing practice that run prana along nadis giving a tangible experience of what animates the body.

Traditional accessible forms of standing postures build balance, strength, release deep seated tensions and direct energy flow.

REST before the next phase of more introverted sustained quiet posture forms, finding greater depth in modified forms of backbends, forward bends, inversions and twists. The experience can be borderline ecstatic.

Finally everyone's favourite YOGANIDRA (yogic or psychic sleep). A practice that releases our burdens whatever they may be.

Followed by a little breathwork (pranayama), mudra (hand gestures) and stillness

Sometimes Sadhana takes the class in a completely different direction depending who is present and the weather.

The classes purify, tone, enliven and heal.

With regular attendance you will notice the significant shifts this form of practice can generate.
