RESTORATIVE YOGA PRACTICE Shantarasa is dedicated to an approach to yoga practice that makes it available to every ‘body’. For many people the particular challenges of their body and psyche may cause them pause in even considering yoga practice for themselves. As well people go through short and long periods of physical and mental challenge due to illness, injury, trauma or crisis. It is in these times and for such people a very different approach needs to be taken in yoga practice. Asana needs to modified and supported to meet the specific physical criteria of each person. Specialised breathing, relaxation and meditation practices may assist recovery or a life situation in such a way as to bring comfort and assistance as the body and mind heals, adapts or transitions through changes. The body/mind will always move toward healing, wellbeing and transformation if we cultivate the right environment. The environment is both internal and external. Cells and attitudes are born out of the environment created by our minds and beliefs. Yoga practice can be beautifully crafted to meet any need and to recreate a more healthful life giving internal and external environment.. Restorative yoga is offered through specific yoga classes, private sessions and workshops to meet specific life stages and situations eg: back and neck care; anxiety and depression, senior’s classes, menopause etc. Shantasrasa has a dedicated and highly trained group of teachers who offer programs in aged care, cancer care, schools, hospitals, clinics, rehab centres and community services organisations.
